About Me

I am a final year student of a 4 year Bsc Hons Computing course in TUD Tallaght.

When it comes to IT, I have always been obsessed with how things work and are connected under the hood and am driven by a mindset of constant learning. Prior to returning to third level education, I gained IT experience with roles in a web design agency and in sales & digital marketing, working client side as an Account Manager in a number of roles.

On returning to education as a mature student, I am happy to say that I feel I have truly found my passion in software development and the encompassing eco-system. I have always had a keen interest in development, and am happy to have taken the plunge to return to college to reskill in this area.

Work History

Fidelity Investments

Jan 2020 - August 2020
Intern Software Developer

I was an intern software developer at Fidelity during my 3rd year placement.

Radical (Core Media)

August 2016 - January 2017
Client Associate (Digital Media)

As a former branch of Core (onecore.ie), my position at Radical saw me positioned as a Client Associate liaising with a variety of clients such as Four Star Pizza, Irish state sponsored body Tech Life Ireland & blue-chip insurance firm Robertson Low. I worked in tandem with teams spanning Search, Social, Creative, Strategy & Tech on tailored digital strategies and executions across channels - while focusing on maintaining relationships & strong rapport with clients throughout. A large part of my role at Radical was working closely with the Production team to schedule commissioned work and ensure all agency hours were approved, logged & recorded against agreed client budgets - using project management software (Teamwork & Resource Guru) and cost management platform (Aura). I finished this role in January 2017 to pursue my studies of Computer Science & to become a more technically adept professional, for which I am currently studying a Bachelors degree in Computing.

Sing Ltd (Partnered with I-Believe & Insightful Media)

November 2015 - August 2016
Solution Sales Associate (Digital Media)

Sing! is a strategic performance marketing agency which focuses on improving digital sales performance through digital channels. I worked prospecting new business for a wide range of services such as: Strategic Planning, Digital Audits, Programmatic Media, SEO, PPC, Content Marketing & Outreach, Social Media, Cart Abandonment, Display and Native Advertising.

enhance.ie - Granite Digital

August 2013 - November 2015
Account Manager (Web Design/Development)

At enhance I focused largely on prospecting, converting, documenting & initiating new business. It was my role to be the touchpoint for a client throughout the lifecycle of their project being designed and developed. Key to this was discussions on and strategic planning of wireframes; pre production & site mapping through to finalised flat designs. I became familar Working with CMS platform - WordPress & gained a good working knowledge of the appliances of different web languages such as PHP, Javascript, HTML & CSS etc. The business was based in three locations, therefor requiring strong communication and organisational skills to achieve client success. Here I developed a good sense of judgment in relation to common web design & online principles.

Projects & Interests

My final year project is a blockchain based dApp (decentralised application), built on the Ethereum platform. It is an application to model a basic supply chain. The functionality will enable a Producer to create an item, which will be made available for purchase by and delivery to a Middleman, who in turn can pay the Producer and make the item available for purchase and delivery to an End User - who can pay the Middleman and consume the item, ending the chain.

All payments within the system will be made in Ether (the native crypto currency to Ethereum platform) - and I will be using the Goerli test net to provide "free" Ether for development purposes.

The blockchain platform was chosen as an alternative to a traditional database backend as by design this platform has in-built immutability and traceability characteristics - enabling the items lifecycle to be traced directly back to the source without any doubt upon the integrity of the journey.

The project is an end to end full stack application, making use of the following tools:

  • Ethereum

    (Solidity, Remix, Metamask, Ganache, Infura)

  • Nethereum

(C# .Net Core framework for interfacing with Ethereum smart contracts)

  • .Net Core

(Mid-tier server side application to handle business logic of the application and manage service classes, MSTest framework for unit testing)

  • Blazor

(WASM Web Assembly front end framework for C# for the UI)

  • Azure

(App Service for deployment & hosting, Pipelines for CI/CD)

project-architecture

On my internship at Fidelity Investments I was given the opportunity to work with some industry standard tools and to put them to use on some mini projects.

  • Java Spring

I was introduced to Java Spring framework by colleagues and took some time to get familiar enough to work with it. I used tutorials as a guide and followed two specific lessons which resulted in developing a Coronavirus tracker application & a server side REST API project. See my internship Github repo

  • Angular

I used Angular to develop a client side application which would serve as a pipeline monitor for various connected Java services within my teams workflow. The UI was fully mobile responsive. The app contained a HTTP call to an internal API provided by a colleague to display and handle data.

  • Jenkins

I got an introduction to DevOps by using Jenkins. I was assigned a task of troubleshooting a pipeline deployment issue. This is experience I have built on in my 4th year in the DevOps module undertaken.

I have been a keen musician for many years.

  • Drums

I have played drums since the age of 14.

  • Guitar

In recent years I have also taken to playing guitar too. I prefer acoustic guitar to electric.

  • Live

I have performed with many bands and artists throughout this time as a drummer and am very much looking forward to the "post Covid" period when live music resumes so I can continue where I left off with this!
